About Tickenhall Alpacas

Sian and Floyd at BerwickTickenhall Alpacas was established in 2003 and is set on 20 acres of rich loam in the charming hamlet of Bayles, “gateway to Gippsland”. Tickenhall is a family-run business owned by Ann and Trevor Parry. Our daughter, Siân, works with us in the business, primarily by halter-training our animals and then handling our alpacas in the show ring.

Halter training success!

ET fluOur story began with the purchase of a pregnant female, a young maiden and a young wether. Our learning curve began early when we lost our maiden to snake-bite. We still have our gracious old lady who is a wonderful mother and our wether looks after one of our stud males. Our herd has now grown significantly and has improved in quality. We breed both coloured huacaya and white and fawn suri, aiming for fine, dense and lustrous fleece. We are also involved with Dr Jane Vaughan in the embryo transfer (ET) programme.

Our property has been designed for ease of management and provides an excellent example of how to manage alpaca on a small acreage. We have year-round prime pasture, secure fencing and ample water. All our alpaca follow a strict health regime and are in optimum condition. We keep full records of all our animals in order to know them well, but also to enable us to make continued gains in genetic enhancement.

Ann and KyleWe have recently joined Q-Alpaca as a means of ensuring quality. The Johne’s Disease Market Assurance Plan (JD MAP) is another important means of quality control. We are also monitored MN2 (monitored negative) on the JD MAP.

We work closely with a specialised vet, who is available to us at any time.
